Blog – Johan Rosenmunthe

As regular WB viewers will know, we are huge fans of Johan Rosenmunthe (& Lodret Vandret). Below are images from his recent solo show held at Norway’s MELK gallery. As to be expected with Johan’s work, Silent Counts doesn’t start or finish with the image, producing an engaging environment and setting for the work that further pushes and provokes the audiences interaction.

“In Silent Counts the Danish artist Johan Rosenmunthe examines stones as tactile objects through different angles, compositions and instruments. By exploring stones from a geological perspective he illustrates that they materially denote weight, surface, dust and age. Yet by recording them via the medium of photography he adds a nostalgic, scientific and philosophical reading of the stones, which challenges their bodily essence.”
