Blog USA / Viviane Sassen

Viviane Sassen’s work is all of the things I most value in photography: it’s gorgeous, inventive, bold, ambiguous, and weird. Her images are highly stylized, remarkable for their use of color and shading and unusual for their approach to portraiture (strange angles, contorting bodies, overlapping limbs, odd props). The results are vaguely surreal and totally exciting.

Sassen’s work is currently on display as part of the New Photography 2011 exhibition at the MOMA.
