Class of 2012 – Anna Jay

Not only  is Anna Jay an impending 2012 graduate from The University of Plymouth but also the talented curator and designer behind the wonderful Blink, at still only 21, Anna poses an impressive talent. Having collaborated with us at Wandering Bears for the Seedless exhibition and as a contributing writer throughout the Brighton Photo Fringe’s Open ’11 on WB, Anna is a familiar name to these pages. The following images are taken from her diploma series Nebula, produced with the intention to ‘investigate the principles of the traditional photographic medium to comment on the science of vision.’ Anna’s focus on still life offers not only an engaging take on a format increasingly familiar to contemporary photographer’s, but a genuine intent to narrate and take the audience somewhere new with the format. Blending a wealth of modern and analogue techniques to exotic subjects and aesthetics, Nebula represents a series that not only visually challenges and stimulates on numerous levels, but one that invites me back time again.
